There have been large advances in the study of human motivation and performance in the workplace. However, most businesses do not implement what has been known in scientific circles for years. But that’s not surprising. There’s a lot of information available on workplace motivation, but much of it is rooted in anecdotal practices without much solid scientific backing. How do you wade through all this information and suggested practices and know which give you the top performance from employees that you need?

After a life-changing positive experience at a rapidly-growing startup, Bob sought to identify, for his own use, what it was about that work environment that fostered such a high level of employee performance. No single theory of motivation explained it, but combining the conditions required by two widely accepted theories did. Together they yielded four workplace conditions that described the work environment he experienced, and that produced the high levels of performance he knew could be generated.

After making this discovery he realized that these findings were too good to keep to himself; that others in management positions may be as unaware of this finding as he was. And that putting these ideas into practice could change their businesses and their lives. It was at that point that he decided to put this framework into a format that would be simple for any business to implement and labelled it the R.A.M.P. framework.
